Older tattoo itching?
I have a tattoo on my forearm, just after the bend in my elbow that's recently started itching sometimes. It's not particularly dry or anything, it just... itches. I had it done in February of 2010 so it's not new and in fact, even when it was new, it never flaked off or really scabbed over too much. The guy who did it was absolutely awesome. I cleaned it and used the Aquaphor on it like he said for as long as he said. Like I said, this is a pretty recent thing, it comes and goes. Any advice on this? I'm not going to mess up my ink by scratching it too much am I?

Because the tattoo is in the lower layer of skin (about 1/16" under the surface),scratching will not affect it unless it's brand new (within the healing stage still).
Even though you think your skin isn't that dry, that's usually the cause of the itching. It shouldn't be an allergic reaction; you would have seen that sooner. I think just moisturizing it with a super heavy duty moisturizer (vaseline works) for a few days, morning and night, will moisturize it enough for it to stop itching.
If that doesn't help, go either to your doctor or your tattoo artist. They'll know what exactly is causing it and what to do.
