now i know there is a dice for it but is it only used to count life?

Dice are used for many functions in MTG.
Some cards have been printed that require you to roll a 6 sided dice. Some people use them for life counters, some for creature tokens & counters, some for charge counters, poison, etc. In tournaments if time is up for the round use them to mark how many turns are left.
