Grant disbursements.?

I'm currently a first-year student at a community college so I have almost no idea how financial aid works. Just a while ago I found out I was selected for verification for my FAFSA, so I quickly got that settled. (I did submit the FAFSA before March 2 though. It's just that I didn't submit the verification forms until mid October.) My school's website shows that they've received the necessary papers but have not yet reviewed them though, and the person I handed them in to said the verification process takes several weeks to finish.

And so my question is.. Would this affect whether or not I receive the disbursements for grants (Pell, CAL, and ACG) for this semester?

Until you complete the verification process (you turn in the paperwork, the school checks them against the info on your fafsa, and makes corrections to the info you entered if they see any discrepancies) you won't get your aid.

You delaying turning in your tax forms severely delayed the process already. Most students don't get their excess aid until 4 weeks AFTER the semester started (when they do the verification process BEFORE the semester starts as normal) but since you waited so late, you may not get any aid until after the semester is actually over.

Grants besides the Pell (like the FSEOG, the ACG and the CAL) are given out on a first come first serve basis. Since you waited so late, your amounts quoted were prob given to those who COMPLETED their paperwork in time. again, LONG before the semester started.

If you needed more money than what your Pell was to cover your tuition and books, I wouldn't count on that paying for your schooling... and if you didn't then don't count on getting those grants now.

Learn from your mistake. You will need to do another fafsa as soon as you do your taxes in Feb. A few weeks later, you need to talk to your school and find out what you need to turn in again... this means completing the ENTIRE fin aid process SIX MONTHS before the year starts that you are applying for aid.
