Ubuntu is a Linux operating system. It is an open source software that anyone can download and modify or contribute to for free. It is a personal preference.

It's an operating system. It's free, powerful, flexible, stable and secure. And it's fun. I have plain vanilla Ubuntu, but installed KDE as well. My Ubuntu box is my mail, wiki, Drupal and all-around web and database server.
