UK - How much does the law cost the taxpayer each year?

I was just wondering are there any figures quoted about how much the whole legal system costs the taxpayer in this country every year?.

The costs of barristers, judges, judges accomodation, expenses, legal aid, etc etc...the whole darn caboodle.

We always hear about how much the benefits system costs the country, but i never hear any figures for how much the whole legal machine costs us annually.

Update:

Mmmmm...no answer after 9 hours, the figures don't seem to exist, proof positive that the powers-that-be are only keen to tell us how much the benefits system is taking from the public purse, but is very silent when it comes to the drain on our resources by the establishment.

I Was led to believe it was around 11% of gdp. bearing in mind the support contributions of guilty parties and Court costs.. Then of course there is the cost of our prisoner population !!

Time we started deporting them to a deserted island again !! ...Abu hansa 1st !!
