  • Pillowcase "Finished Surfaces" - Stain Remover?

I want to get a stain off one of my pillowcases, so I thought i'd give it a long soak in some fabric stain remover.

But when I looked at the instructions for soaking, it says "Do not soak fabrics with finished surfaces".

I'm wondering what they mean by "Finished Surfaces", my pillowcase is half plain white but the other half has a raised silver leaf pattern on the other half.

So is the fancy raised silver leaf pattern on the pillowcase a "finished surface"?

I'd better not soak it until i find out.

  • Where are medieval peasants buried?

Recently I've been reading about a couple of churches in my area, one of them was started in The Norman period, the other goes back even further, Even though the structures have changed, they've remained in the same place over the centuries.

I see gravestones in one of the churches going back to the 1700's, but then i'm wondering what happened to people buried before then?, are they in the same churchyard but without headstones and the victorians have buried their dead over the top of them?

    Or are they elsewhere?

  • Query about 1915 and 1918 Furniture Receipts?

I've found these two old reciepts from house furnishers dated 1915 and 1918.

One from a firm called Wallace Jones & Sons, the other from M Love.

They're two reciepts for mattresses, bedsteads etc.

But what I can't figure out is, both receipts say "Dr to" before the company name.

Anyone know what the "Dr to" means...I've taken a photo of the reciepts, here's the link.

  • Do you think Big brother almost needlessly advertises/highlights racism?

Sometimes I think Big Brother is almost highlighting and advertising racism by making such a big fuss out of a slip of the tongue.

should Ron's comment and then the subsequent warning be aired on TV?.

Same with Carol, she's said the N word, when a bit drunk and then they had to air it on TV with the accompanying hoo-haa and trumpets.

If BB can see that a housemate isn't really racist, then get him/her in the diary room and give them a little warning, say something like "Look, we know you're a bit drunk or weren't thinking whilst you were speaking, but don't say that again or you could get kicked out".

All that could be said privately and not aired on TV, hence the ugly head of Racism and bigotry hasn't been promoted, advertised, and waved in the face of the british public.

If they can see a housemate is a complete 100% racist, shouting "I hate this race", "I hate this colour"," I hate this religion" etc all the time, then fair enough, put his comments on TV and let him/her hang out to dry.

I think there's an easy dividing line on this kind of thing, (slip of the tongue= don't air it cos we don't need to advertise racism) and (Vile racism=boot em out) easy.

  • House left to children, but house now reposessed.?

An old couple in our street lived in their property for decades, so they make a will leaving the house to their three grandchildren,( Rachel, John and Simon), they didn't leave it to their son James, because they didn't trust him with money or get on with him that well.

So, since then, the old couple have died, James and his wife have been living in that house for a number of years bringing up their kids Rachel 11years old, John 8years old and Simon 4years old.

But recently James got into huge financial difficulties and they now have had to leave that house and it's been reposessed.

But i was wondering, how can the house be taken away from the grandchildren if it wasn't their fault that their dad had got himself into massive debt, the house belongs to Rachel Simon and John, So how come they lose the house because of their father's shortcomings?

  • Sizzler Plates - how are they used?

Many a time i've been to my local for a bit of pub grub.

I quite like a nice steak served up on a sizzler plate.

Or a nice piece of chicken in a barbecue sauce.

But it's just struck me i don't know how these sizzler plates are used.

Is a steak cooked in the oven on the sizzler plate, or is the steak cooked in a conventional way then transferred onto the sizzler plate to keep it warm?

So simply, is the sizzler used as part of the cooking process or is it merely used to keep stuff warm?

  • UK - How much does the law cost the taxpayer each year?

I was just wondering are there any figures quoted about how much the whole legal system costs the taxpayer in this country every year?.

The costs of barristers, judges, judges accomodation, expenses, legal aid, etc etc...the whole darn caboodle.

We always hear about how much the benefits system costs the country, but i never hear any figures for how much the whole legal machine costs us annually.

  • Difference between Amoral and Immoral?

    I know what immoral is.

If i uncaringly mug an old lady and steal her purse, it's an immoral act.

But what would i have to do to be amoral?

Or if i was talking amorally, what kind of viewpoint would i have?

  • BBUK11 Dave..Who would have voted for him?

    I'm not being facetious.

But i'm genuinely can't think why Dave was so popular.

What section of society does he appeal to?,

certainly not the youngsters, they like their heros/heroines to be a bit dishy.

i'm in my forties and i can't see anything appealing about him.

Is it that there's loads of religious people watch BB and they wanted to keep him in.

But i can't see how he'd appeal to the religious community, cos he's just a parody of all things holy, he went in dressed as Friar Tuck, i'd call that taking the holy pi$$ if you ask me.

  • BBUK11...Is Josie sticking up for Corin for the £100,000?

For me it's big respect to Josie for sticking up for Corin and not allowing the guys to bully her.

If it wasn't for Josie, that would have carried on until Corin had been backed into a corner and eventually left.

I tell you what though, Josie sticking up for Corin, i am wondering if Josie is doing all that because she knows it looks good on camera.

She knows she's in the final.

She knows there's £100,000 just there for the taking, because she's been made aware often enough how popular she is on the outside.

She knows all she's got to do is stay popular by sticking up for the good causes and the money is virtually hers.

Hell...i'd argue with John James, morning, noon and night, 7 days a week if i thought it would get me the dirty cash.

But whether she's done all that with one eye on the cash or not, it's still been great viewing watching her verbally defeat the guys, and then put John James on a leash.

  • Best way to get the missus out of bed in the morning?

If the missus is having a well deserved lie-in on a sunday morning, i've found the best way to get her up so that she can make me a cup of tea is,go to the freezer and wrap your hands around a frozen chicken or bag of peas for a few minutes, then run upstairs and ram your freezing cold hands down her back and on her ***.

She's out of bed in a jiffy, i suggest you try it too, tell me how you get on.

  • Christians - Jews not accepting Jesus as the Messiah?

I know you've probably been asked this many times.

But i'll ask in my own way.

As Christians, don't you find that it is a big blow to your faith in Jesus that the Jews, the very people Jesus represents, the central peoples in the Bible, gods chosen people, they don't believe that Jesus was the Messiah.

It's the equivalent of being a devout Buddhist and the people of India saying they don't believe in Siddartha and all his teachings.

I'm not asking from some atheistic, anti-religion viewpoint, i'm not attempting to be facetious.

I am genuinely curious why all this doesn't shake your faith in Jesus as the messiah.

  • What do you think of Zye, Penn or Noua?

Like that writer who wrote Peter Pan who invented the name Wendy.

I'd kinda like to have a go at thinking up a new girl's name for my little un coming up.

I first thought of Zye (pronounced Zi), which i like cos it's short and sweet almost like a nickname.

    like Di or Vi.

    Zye Hargreaves, not bad

I was thinking of using my mother's maiden name Penn.

Penn Hargreaves has a sorta ring to it.

I did toy with the name Noua....which is pronounced Noo-Ah

But it does sound like Noah being said in a scottish accent..so mebbe not.

I'm finding it hard to make up a new name without it sounding ridiculous or maybe pretentious.

  • Rejoice Cardiff fans - you're already through!?

I'm the most unsuccessful gambler in the whole history of fixed odds betting.

I've put twenty quid on Blackpool to be promoted.

Because i've done this, it's guaranteed that Blackpool will be undone.

I'm on an impressive losing streak and i can't see me breaking the habit of a lifetime by starting to win now.

  • To be a true Christian, do you have to give everything?

If Jesus was given a million pounds, would he have given half of it to charity and then kept the rest for himself.

Or would he have given it all away.

Can you still be a true christian if you have wealth?
