Do you think Big brother almost needlessly advertises/highlights racism?
Sometimes I think Big Brother is almost highlighting and advertising racism by making such a big fuss out of a slip of the tongue.
should Ron's comment and then the subsequent warning be aired on TV?.
Same with Carol, she's said the N word, when a bit drunk and then they had to air it on TV with the accompanying hoo-haa and trumpets.
If BB can see that a housemate isn't really racist, then get him/her in the diary room and give them a little warning, say something like "Look, we know you're a bit drunk or weren't thinking whilst you were speaking, but don't say that again or you could get kicked out".
All that could be said privately and not aired on TV, hence the ugly head of Racism and bigotry hasn't been promoted, advertised, and waved in the face of the british public.
If they can see a housemate is a complete 100% racist, shouting "I hate this race", "I hate this colour"," I hate this religion" etc all the time, then fair enough, put his comments on TV and let him/her hang out to dry.
I think there's an easy dividing line on this kind of thing, (slip of the tongue= don't air it cos we don't need to advertise racism) and (Vile racism=boot em out) easy.

Of course it does ,a good old racist story is a big money spinner, anything to do with race or colour will be milked dry until every last penny is earned ... Racism puts big brother on the front pages and that's what they want viewers = votes = money
You could put a camera in any home in my town and find something to be offended about , swearing smoking, casual racism, homophobia ,drinking , smoking a joint kids staying up late is now classed as child abuse for goodness sake .
Why are people constantly in uproar and outrage about petty unnecessary things

Celebrity Big Brother is all about well-known people trying to get more exposure and money to be re-born in the fame world.
Ron did say an extremely racist comment which I am appalled by, but if Big Brother did not show this then I would of thought Ron was a nice man.
Why should Big Brother only show the positive sides of people and get good exposure when they're not actually good people?
Big Brother is an reality show, racism happens on and off air. I don't understand how paying attention to the fact that racism is wrong is promoting and encouraging others to be racist, it just shows that Big Brother does not tolerate it.
If Big Brother said to Ron that they knew he was a bit drunk viewers would then think "Oh, so BB thinks that being drunk is an excuse for racism?"
Drunk or sober, racism is wrong either way and BB was right to call him to the diary room and give him a stern warning.
I - personally as a viewer - would like to know which housemates are racist and which are not. Why should big brother edit out a racial comment because it could be highlighting racism?
Highlighting racism is merely telling the public how wrong it is and how it is not accepted by BB therefore it should be punishable in the real world.
So overall BB has done nothing wrong and if anything is giving the public awareness that people can be cruel.

I don't think it promotes racism as such but BB makes a big deal out of something small that it takes away from actual racism, bullying etc. While they are highlighting how they give one housemate a warning there is real racism, bullying, discrimination etc going on but that gets put away as they don't want to go down that road.
For example when they pulled Ron last night (fair enough he deserved to be called out) they were making out like he was deliberately being racist when in fact he wasn't trying to be (even if he was being offensive) I guess they were just covering their backs for legal reasons. The thing is any of the housemates could claim they were offended by someone at some point such as Courtney because the others give out about her voice, the comment Sophie made about Danielle not being well known could be seen as being offensive and personal or the way they keep giving out about Charlotte and her bad habits but if she wanted to she cold claim they were bullying her.

Of course they are - why else would they leave any of it in the edited highlights - there were hours and hours of other footage. Especially with Carol as they bleeped the n word out anyway. They kept it in to be controversial and prove a point - they won't tolerate racism, so in a way both Ron and Carol have been made examples of.

I agree. If the behaviour was bad enough to warrant a warning, why air it? But then I suppose they'd get accused of only showing people's good sides and showing favouritism.

i agree-certainly with carol her warning was completely unnecessary-bb bleeped it so no one would be any wiser and crucially, she was simply quoting ron. these warnings are dual-purpose
1)it plasters the show across the media and thus garners more viewers
2)covers their own backsides so they can say they did something

Its not advertising it and giving them a warning on tv tells people that it is not acceptable
