magic the gathering block?

ok i know this is going to sound noobish but iv always learned that if you say had a 3/3 monster attack a say 2/2 it kills that monster and they take one damage but i watched an old tape by wizard that said it didn't can someone confirm im right or wrong?

Update:

so basicly i can have it all the way up to a 10/10 and if they block it with a 1/1 they take no damage..

Damage only passes through if the creature has Trample. Normally, the 2/2 would take all 3 damage from the 3/3 and the player would take nothing; if the 3/3 has Trample, though, that 1 remaining damage would "trample through" and hurt them.

This is correct. If it did go through there would be no point in having the ability trample. If a 1/1 blocks a 10/10 no damage goes through and the 1/1 dies. If the creature had the ability trample, then 9 damage would go through.

basically, if you had a 10/10, and you attack with it, your opponent can block with a 1/1 and tae no damage, if your creature had the ability trample, than they would take 9

except some potential says otherwise, any style of creatures can block an attacking creature. only bear in mind that except an potential says otherwise, each protecting creature can basically block a unmarried attacking creature consistent with wrestle.
