My question is about boxers.?

My boxer is about 1 1/2 years old. I don't know what her first year was like since I've only had her for about 6 months. I've had dogs all my life and always had great success when training. I insist on a well behaved dog. She just doesn't seem to get it. When I try to work with her all she wants to do is jump up and lick me or roll over on her back. I have always used a small treat and 'Watch me' to gain the dogs attention but this one has me stumped. She will 'come' and 'sit' but that lasts all of 5 seconds and then she lays down and rolls over. Getting her up is impossible unless I simply walk away from her, Then she get's up, finds me and does it again. I am also having difficulty with the potty training. She's in her kennel while I'm at work. I let her out immediately when I return home. An hour later she will go into another room and squat while I'm in the other room! Help!!!

You can NOT train a boxer when they want to play! They are the energetic clowns of the dog world! Boxers are very smart and get trained fast as long as you do it the right way. You HAVE to exercise your dog before you attempt any training. This means a good jog, long walk, or a session of fetch. After your dog is tired out, you will be able go get better results but, remember that boxers do not take anything seriously and you NEED to make training fun for her or she wont do it. NEVER put your dog in its crate for not listening to you or being bad! A crate is supposed to be a safe haven and not a punishment. As for the housebreaking, are you actually taking her out and making sure that she does go potty? If not, then that is your mistake. You should take your dog out and walk around with her a little, this will stimulate her to go potty. As long as you keep her outside until she has finished, then you wont have a problem with her going inside.

it is good you keep ignoring her when she does this. that is what you need to keep doing and maybe even put her in her kennel when she isnt listening to you. change the frequency of the time she is in the kennel. start out with a few minutes and build up each time you put her in there. better yet dont use a kennel. if you have a closet or another relatively small room i would use that since you kennel her when you are away. it may sound harsh but it is not and it will teach the dog that you are unhappy with a certain action they perform. now you dont want her to be confused that laying down is bad though. also dont use verbal commands until physical ones are known first. then add the verbal with the physical.

Exercise her before you do the training. You're trying to train her while she is full of pent up energy.

she probably thinks its a game.

boxers are energy grenades. they're always full of energy. try exercising her really well before training. then when shes a little worn out shell have more attention on you.

Boxers are known for their bravery not their SMARTS I have one also at that age and have had many in my life It's just the way they are ! Bulldogs are worse if you want to try one of them You will think your boxer is smart then !

How could you possibly have ever had even one dog w/out discovering COLLARS & LEADS?????

    ON-LEAD.............chain/choke/prong collar............POP& RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

    DEMAND compliance.......not beg,plead,grovel bribe...DEMAND.

    & housebreak....dogs can't use a "potty".

CONFINE when not under DIRECT SUPERVISION!!!....COLLAR & LEAD-attached to you...........YANK it outside instead of ignoring it.
