i want to write to my supposed father, but how do I?

okay so my mom told me who my supposed father might be. but we don't know. she had asked him to take a DNA test a couple months ago and he said he would like to and if i am his daughter he would want to get to know me. thing is, we haven't heard from him and my mom thinks he's scared she'll ask him for money. but we can't cause he had signed his legal rights away(which makes no since cause we don't know if he is my dad) i saw pictures and i really look like his father, him, and his brother. he also has two other kids and one of them looks just like me when i was a little kid. I really want to write him and tell him i was want to find out if he's my father and that we don't need none of his money. i just want to get to know him and spend time with him, that's all. and i'm graduating 2011 and i would like for him to come, please help me, i don't know what to say to him

Before you write to him, I think your mother needs to contact him.  She can explain that she's not interested in financial assistance, that the two of you just want to determine if he is really your dad - and if so, that you would like to get to know him if you can.

The truth is you don't know his reasons for not getting back to you - maybe it's the money, or maybe it's something else entirely.  It's really your mother's place to find out what went wrong, and if he is in fact still willing to do the test.

And if he does, and if he IS your dad, you'll know what to say, Honey.  Just speak from the heart.  But first - you need to know for sure.  Talk to your mom, let HER talk to your possible dad.
