You have two basic types of fuel here for vehicles: Gasoline and Diesel fuel. It's important to know what type of fuel your RV will require: Diesel is a bit more expensive, but gets better milage.

There are a couple of problems I see with your planning. I'd hate for you to underestimate the cost:

-I'm wondering where in Nevada you're going that takes 700 miles to get there. Even Elko, in the most remote northeastern corner of the state, is only 650 miles. But you just don't find many Aussies heading up that way. Most go to Las Vegas, a few to Lake Tahoe. Both of those are a LOT closer.

-10 MPG is a VERY generous estimate for milage, even for a class C rig, the most popular among tourists. I have a 30-foot class A rig, and I'm lucky to get 7 MPG. And that's only if I'm staying in the flats. Once I used up a quarter or a tank going up the Sherwin Grade from Bishop to Mammoth, and to Lee Vining. Mountain driving REALLY sucks up fuel.

-Finally, the price of fuel varies. In general, it's about $3.00 per gallon across the US, and about $3.25 per gallon in California. However, you need to plan your route very carefully if you don't want to get stuck and pay through the nose. I saw gas last summer for over $5 per gallon in a couple of remote mountain areas (and beach areas). Gas is cheaper when you are closer to cities, so you want to pay close attention to distances.

If the person renting from is saying 10MPG, figure 8 MPG.

    Estimate about $3.50 per gallon

    Double-check your distances.

Don't EVER rent from Caravans for Hire/Open Road RV. Those guys will rip you off.

OK, from LAX to Black Rock City is less than 600 miles via 395. You'll want to fill up in Bishop, CA. There are several stations there on the highway that have cheaper gas. Then Fill up in Minden, NV before finishing the last leg to Black Rock. Whilst in Bishop, stop at Schatt's Bakery for sandwiches and bread (left side of the street, you can park by the ball fields on the right). If you stop at Mammoth Lakes, stop by Grumpy's for a burger and a beer. Mammoth Lakes RV park is nearby, and it's not a bad place to stay.

    Have fun!

The website below might be helpful in planning your trip. It has the average gas prices for the counties you'll be driving through. Our gas prices here fluctuate quite a bit. That's what a free market economy gets you. Take the average gas price and budget your entire trip using that figure.

If you are bringing anything to Burning Man that you would like to keep than keep it locked up. People will borrow your things and not return them, especially bikes. Bring lots of water and wet wipes. They'll help you freshen up without having to take a shower. Have fun!

There are 3.785 litres in a U.S. Gallon. Gasoline in the US is referred to as gas, never petrol. Some gasoline contains ethanol, but no vehicles in the US, except maybe some city transit buses run on natural gas. Many larger vehicles run on diesel, or fuel oil.

Gas prices vary significantly depending on where you are in the US. Right now gas is averaging around $2.95 per gallon in Los Angeles and just under $2.80 in Las Vegas.

$2.00 to $4.00 consistent with gallon. OPEC has an interest in moderating the fee. expenditures pass too intense, selections replace into greater alluring, call for drops, OPEC looses. The technologies which will make petroleum-based fuels thoroughly out of date might desire to ok be on some drafting board actual now, yet whilst it became into interior of 5 years of turning into powerful i've got faith we'd comprehend approximately it already. on the different hand, do no longer you ask your self if Saudi Arabia will ever pick "we've each and all the money in the worldwide, enable's end all this nasty oil drilling...who desires it besides?"

It varies by location. Yes, your petrol is the same as our gasoline.mm California, at least in recent years, has had the highest average gas prices in the US. Plan on spending at least $3.50(US) per gallon. Based upon the information you've provided, you'll likely need AT LEAST 165 gallons of fuel, probably more depending upon any detours and delays you may encounter.

EDIT: The price can also fluctuate wildly from one day to the next.

RV's use gasoline (petrol) for the engine that propels them, but propane for heating, hot water, cooking, etc.

Approximately $3 (U.S.) per gallon. Since you will use approximately 140 gallons (round trip), it will cost you approximately $400 (U.S. dollars).
