She may have problems with her anal glands. If she goes to the groomer, some groomers automatically empty the anal glands without asking the owner, and the dog begins to need to have their anal glands emptied because they can no longer empty on their own.
If the glands become impacted or overfilled and do not get emptied, then when the dog gets excited or scared, the anal glands release fluid, and it stinks to high heaven. It's a smell that once you've smelled it, you'll never mistake it for anything else again.
With dogs like an Aussie, who have what I like to call "mudflaps" on their back paws, it is easy for the smell to get stuck in that hair. (EDIT: By "mudflaps", I mean that long hair that herding dogs get on their back thighs. Anal gland stuff and poop can get stuck in it ;0)
Some dogs just naturally get anal gland problems when they are fed too soft of a diet (no raw bone in a raw diet or not enough fiber in a kibble diet). The anal glands clean themselves naturally when a the poop goes through the colon.
Otherwise, check carefully to make sure your dog hasn't rolled in anything at all. Raccoon poop smells awful and looks a lot like dog poop. For some reason, dogs LOVE rolling in it.
Hope you find out soon!
