3y+3(1-y)-y=6
Reorder the polynomial 1-y alphabetically from left to right, starting with the highest order term.
3y+3(-y+1)-y=6
Multiply 3 by each term inside the parentheses.
3y+(-3y+3)-y=6
Since 3y and -3y are like terms, add -3y to 3y to get 0.
0+3-y=6
Combine all similar terms in the polynomial 3y-3y+3-y.
3-y=6
Reorder the polynomial 3-y alphabetically from left to right, starting with the highest order term.
-y+3=6
Since 3 does not contain the variable to solve for, move it to the right-hand side of the equation by subtracting 3 from both sides.
-y=-3+6
Add 6 to -3 to get 3.
-y=3
Multiply each term in the equation by -1.
-y*-1=3*-1
Multiply -y by -1 to get y.
y=3*-1
Multiply 3 by -1 to get -3.
y=-3

First distribute the 3 into the parentheses. That's multiplying by both terms in the parentheses.
3y + 3 (1-y) - y = 6
3y + 3 - 3y -y = 6
Then combine like terms (everything with y).
-1y + 3 = 6
Then subtract 3 from both sides.
-1y = 3
Then divide by -1 to get y alone.
y = -3

First distribute 3 to 1-y
3y+3-3y-y=6
Then combine all the y's
-y+3=6
Then subtract 3 from both sides
-y=3
Then divide both sides by -1
y=-3
