ok, I just read this in class and here are the things I know:
Usher was very sick and wanted the narrator's company "...his only personal friend..." in hopes that "...the cheerfulness of [his friend's] society ...[might alleviate]...his malady....
I read on one site that Lady Madeline's disease was called catalepsy, but I have no idea if it is right.

The narrator was there to visit Madeline, not her brother. Madeline died during the visit. Or did she?
Just read the story. it isn't very long. You'll like it. It is your assignment, after all.
