Who originated the expression, "wait for it...wait for it..."?

I know people have been telling others to wait for things as long as we've had language, but I'm referring to the specific, suspense-building usage heard so often in media and popular culture nowadays - right before an amazing play on Sportscenter highlights, before a big reveal at the end of someone's anecdote, etc.

I think I first heard it in Mel Brooks movies (probably "Blazing Saddles" or "Young Frankenstein" first). Not sure if he originated it though.
