-Connect both computers with the lan cable
-On both computers, set the Local Area Connection settings -> TCP/IPv4 -> set the IP address to 192.168.1.1 on comp 1 and 192.168.1.2 on comp 2(you can use any numbers in the end, as long as it's different from the other one)
-Share a folder in the recieving computer, allow write. (Properties -> Sharing -> Share on Win7, Properties -> Sharing on XP)
-On the sending computer, type in the address bar: //othercomputername
-Copy the files to the folder

ya only one LAN cable is needed.
this LAN cable must be cross over. connect the cable to Ethernet ports of both machines
and give ip add to both machines e.g 192.168.1.1 & 192.168.1.2. and just share the folder that you want.
