FRESHMAN BOYFRIEND?!?!?

okay im a sophomore and i am dating a freshman (ty) (not that big of a difference but its still awkard). okay we are having a problem. he asked me out after what seemed like years and now that we go together he dont speak to me. he walks straight pass me and wont give me a hug. if you ask him does he go with me he would say no but when we are in class or something he will send me a text message saying 'i love you baby' or 'hey baby mama'. its really weird. i actually kind like him and i dont see why we are having problems and what is the problem. i have confronted him about 2 times about it and he keeps saying he will do better. and then he will ask for a kiss to make up for him not speaking and i will refuse because i dont want to just kiss someone that cant speak to me when they see me. we stay after school together with my best friend(Dasa) who is a junior and is dating his best friend (jojo also a freshman) and them two are hugged up and we are just sitting there acting really weird. i dont know what to do. my friends say its just a freshman thing but i think he is just scared. any advice.?
