Dogs stitches opening. thanks.?

I don't appreciate the vet who is acting as if i neglected her. She was not running or jumping, but I could not stop her from walking around. The stitches were perfectly fine until today. I don't think that crating a dog for 9 hours a day 6 days a week is very humane. And I never got a cone for her because she wasn't licking the wound. This is why people are apprehensive about going to vets. They make people feel like bad pet owners so that they can suck them dry.

I would like to know what stitches are supposed to look like after 2 weeks. I would like to know whether or not my concern is legitimate. I would like to ask a question without someone assuming that I did not try to take care of a pet that I love.

If your dog had spay surgery (or whatever surgery) where the vet's instructions included crate rest, keeping the dog from excess exercise, and keeping an elizabethan collar on to prevent the dog from getting at the incision------that is in your dog's best interests as well as your own.. It is humane. And it's to prevent the dog from needing additional surgery, additional anesthesia to repair an incision that opened up. Keeping the activity to a minimum, and crating the dog would have saved you another vet visit- -and money- -wouldn't it?

A vet keeps the dog for up to 3 hours or days, depending on his schedule and the way the dog feels. You see them in the cages when you walk in or like so, but they take good care of them. 2 weeks to keep it?? That's meant to be you, not even that long. Then you take it back; the vet takes them out, sometimes putting in digestible stitches and things should be done shortly after. The metallic kind make the dog itch after, especially if it's nearly a hairless breed, or is.

After 2 weeks normally they should be ready to come out. My best advice is to ask around and get a new vet. If he or she makes you feel bad when you've done nothing wrong, you aren't going to trust that vet if something happens in the future. Word of mouth is the best way to find a good vet.

after 2 weeks there should be no redness, no seeping, oozing or flaking. the wound should look like its well on its way to closing up.

Even if the dog doesnt seem like she's licking.. go get a cone and put it on when you go to bed. Dogs will lick when they are alone.. and she may very well be licking all night, when youre not watching.

Source(s): Going through it right now... Malamute ate a cat toy, got lodged in stomach.. $2000 surgery to get it out. She's got stitches all up her stomach. scheduled to come out tomorrow morning, thank god!

I wouldn't be too worried as long as it doesn't start to look red or swollen. To clean the wound, spray some peroxide on it. I had a dog that got attacked several months back, and she had several large puncture wounds as well as a collapsed lung. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call your vet. Good luck.

ONCE AGAIN, stitches come out at 10 days, not two weeks.
