Want to work in the USA?

I'm English, and didn't go to uni and have been working from home recently instead. But I really want to get away and would love to work in the USA for 7-8 months starting from Jan. next year. Does anybody know how I could do this, or has anyone else done it who could give me some advice? (I'm a pastry chef, no official qualifications, and would love to work in a bakery).

You must be hired by US Employer first, who is willing to file Petition for your Temporary Workers visa. If you find one, you can apply H2B visa with approved Petition. The visa will be valid for 1 year.

However, due to the current economy, many US Employer is not hiring foreigners, let alone US Citizens. Good luck though!

Its really hard to do that. Don't know what the job market for pastry chefs is here, but that profession is a dime a dozen, as bakery schools and culinary institutes churn out hundreds of new grads every month. Also, you would need a work visa to come here and work legally. I seriously doubt you could get an employer to sponsor you, so you will be a high risk to overstay a tourist or student visa, which seems to be the only way you can get over here. If you do get here, do not overstay your visa, because life is gonna suck as you will not be able to do anything without the proper identification. Good luck.
