I'm English, and didn't go to uni and have been working from home recently instead. But I really want to get away and would love to work in the USA for 7-8 months starting from Jan. next year. Does anybody know how I could do this, or has anyone else done it who could give me some advice? (I'm a pastry chef, no official qualifications, and would love to work in a bakery).

I've never entered before- this is just a local one and I'd like to enter several cakes (victoria sponge, chocolate etc). They have paper plates on which the cakes will be displayed, but do they prefer standard cakes, or do I have a better chance of winning if I do something fancy 'cause I'd love to do all sorts of chocolatey fancy bits on the choc. cake? And I've got an amazing and unusual recipe for carrot cake, but will the judges just be looking for the best example of a STANDARD carrot cake?

Our cat's now about 15, and in the last few months has begun meowing loads, and seeking out attention from anyone and everyone. Is this normal? We moved house last April, but she was fine until about October 2009, and is now constantly wantingus to stroke her. She seems fine in every other way, and is still fit and healthy.
