Cost of Taurus upper ball joint?

2002 Taurus wagon needs a new front upper ball joint, the quote claims the price of a new one is $125 (not including labor), but according to sources such as this one

http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2002/ford/taurus/...

it shouldn't cost anywhere near that much. Is Goodyear serious, or did they make a mistake?

That's the way it works. They get the part and charge you more than it costs them. They are in business to make money.

Your post is confusing though. You say "upper ball joint" and link to a "lower ball joint". Also it doesn't seem to have an upper anyway. Not a big deal anyway.

Looks like a press in unit so unless you have the tools and a press to accomplish the task, you will have to spend the $125+labor to have it fixed.

This vehicle doesn't have an upper ball joint--only lower ball joints. A genuine Ford lower ball joint is around $65. The upper part of the strut is connected to the strut mount/bearing assembly, not a ball joint. If the shop tells you it needs an upper ball joint, I'd find a new shop

in case you replace one, do the different and the two facets besides for piece of recommendations. in case you desire to verify them positioned a jack decrease than the administration arm and wiggle wheel up and all the way down to verify if there is play. side to side play would be a tie rod situation. undergo in recommendations that when changing the better ball joint(you will desire to mark the two nuts on ideal), in case you are not getting it precisely ideal, an alignment would be required. If the keep doing the alignment reveals a ball joint or tie rod with play they won't align it without replace-so verify them first so which you do not sense stupid at a keep.

Well shops charge a percentage higher then what you would pay or they pay this way they make a profit its business really. It part has to be removed using a chisel or torch and pressed in the control arm.
