Agree or Disagree. Will Black Americans ever be consider just "Americans" by the dominant group? Do Black?

Blacks died for integration; to vote; to do the same and be treated no difference than the masses. If we didn't want to be part of the dominant group that means everything done and achieved were in vein.

Langston Hughes, black poet, had a wonderful poem, "I too am American" this highlighted his passion to be treated as the masses because he felt also that blacks were americans too. We did fight in the civil war, wwI, wwII, vietnam etc...as well.

Truth of the matter since 1618 to 2011 blacks have only achieved tolerance. We will never be accepted. The best we can do is being tolerated by the masses and that has strings or a time limit tied to it. We will never be embraced by the masses partly because if you've done dirt you will always look over your shoulder. They will never fully trust us and always get nervous when more than two gather together for whqtever reason. Only 12%-13% (36M out of 300M) of the population yet we garner more than 40% of the negative news reported. Why is it always a white and black comparison?

Let's look at it like this

Prior to slavery, blacks had family structure; unity and a rich heritage. Slavery split and destroyed families for the world's gain/benefit...centuries of free labor.

In Greenwood a district in Tulsa, Oklahoma blacks owned "Black Wall Street" until the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 caused by jealous racists.

Prior to integration, blacks unified for a common cause. Now we're separated by those with money; those without; split families; lack of education; identity etc...cursed

MLK once said he was concerned he was integrating his people into a burning house. It's 2011 and the cinder blocks are charred.

As long as blacks continue to melt into the mainstream they will self-destruct. Look at the news, it's clear as day. We are a set apart people.

I'm not big on sociology. More into anthroplogy. That said, I don't know. I hope so. Do they want to? Some do for sure. I know some very patriotic black people.

I think most white people actively want black people to think this. Theres an idea in the white community that all black people hate being American.

The dominant group. Now that is a different story. What defines the group? Human beings have a mob mentality. Anything different we are instantly suspicious.

I think it's possible to achieve this with education but the crazies on both sides are keeping us in a quagmire of racial hatred. They sell books, get tv ratings with showing us how much black and white people hate each other and the reasons why.

Screw being part of the dominant group.

Joining with the dominant group means losing what is distinct, unique, and special about you. Why do we have to be "just Americans" when we can be Black Americans and enjoy all that makes us who we are?

I love our music

I love our dance

I love our food (even though its bad for us when you eat it too much lol)

I love how we talk, even though people call it "slang" and say its not proper lol

Being unique is a beautiful thing, and even though we've been pushed aside and not fully accepted, I feel in many ways it was a blessing in disguise. It was life on the fringes of society that gave us the best of our music, art, poetry and dance, so why the f*ck should we give all of that up now, just to be like everyone else?

Nope. We'll never be considered American.

We're always considered lower. Beneath. Second place, and all because of melanin.

Notice whenever someone says "all american" it's directed at someone with blonde hair and blue eyes?

There's too much hatred in the world, and too many people spreading it.

We aren't considered people, we're BLACK people. I'm not seen as a girl, I'm a BLACK girl.

We aren't normal. We're either a threat, or too "different" to be included.

It's nauseating, but true.

No. I don't think Black Americans will ever be considered "American" by the dominant group. The hegemonic ideal of an American is white and unfortunately race plays an important factor in our society.

Lots of people accept Americans (black americans), it'll never be 100%, but we can hope...

When whites become a minority, the minorities will start referring to themselves as Americans. That's really the only way I can envision it...

Yea we do just want to be just Americans, but of course they refer that to white people. We are not "Americans" because of our skin color. Which is sad.

In a few years we will be the dominant group and I don't give a rats asss what hite folks consider me.

If they ever do then every other race should to in my opinion.
