Horses are ice age animals. They do not mind the cold. They do better in cold climates than in hot climates.

Don't even shut the doors. Fresh air is great. Shut the doors, and you shut in germs and allergens and dust; open them and give them the fresh air, they'll be healthier. I don't shut doors till the temp is below 10F, even if it's windy.

Blankets are another unnecessary modern amenity. The horse will be healthier if allowed to develop his natural coat.

I've kept horses in northern climates for decades. They don't get cold - believe me, when I first moved North I was hyper worried about them! - and they don't need heated barns.

Nonheated. What if the heating breaks? Then you have horses who aren't used to having a cold barn. A heated barn is totally unnecessary. The only benefit I would see in it is you don't have to chip ice out of water buckets.

I also love cold weather and hate being too warm.

Depends on the horse and the season. In winter it is obviously very useful if your horse is unsure about rugs and heated water. But in summer and that it will be harder to keep a horse cool. Heavier breeds like fjords are used to cold temperatures, and they may struggle with the constant heat.

Non-heated. It's natural for horses to grow winter coats that keep them warm. A heated barn would be AMAZING for humans (I hate winter!) but there would be poor ventilation and it's just...not good for a horses' health. Blankets, heated water buckets, and shutting the doors are enough.

Heated not natural bad for horses. They should be in a field in the day at least and a non heated stable at night. rug them.

I'm sure HUMANS do better in heated barns.

    Horses do not need them.

If the horse is being turned out part of the time, he'll do better in an unheated barn, so he won't have to adjust to all the temperature changes.

I think this heated barn business is a load of bollox tbh ! seriously unless you've got a t.b in antartica I think it's stupid - thats what a stable rug is for.
