Whats the diff between a soft and hard boiled egg?
I want to make one but dont know which type it is that I used to eat at home. My mom would boil it in the stove and it didnt take that long, and the outside was hard and you peeled the hard shell off and the inside was soft but firm and the yolk had become firm inside
Its easier? But my mom never took 20 minutes to make them. at most 5 or 6 mintues.
And if you are going to say "the difference is a runny yolk" please tell me which one has the runny yolk.
It took her 10 minutes

a runny yolk is the difference.
The HARD boiled egg has the hard yolk.
The SOFT boiled egg has the soft runny yolk.
For a hard boiled egg(which is what you described)
DO NOT boil for 20 minutes or you will have a green ring around the yolk and look awful. This is from cooking.
The classic Julia Child instructions for hard boiled eggs is as follows and works every time, no matter how many or how few eggs you boil.
Put the eggs in cold water.
Add salt if you wish.
Bring to a boil. Cover and remove from heat. Wait 10 minutes and drain and add ice water and chill the eggs.
Perfect every time.

I'm pretty sure hard boiled is where the egg is completely cooked in water but soft boiled is when the white part of the egg is cooked and the inside yellow yoke or whatever it's called is still gooey.

Here are instructions on the soft boiled egg: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Soft-Boiled-Egg
Hard boiled eggs are easier. Put eggs in a pot, add water to cover and bring to a boil. When it comes to a rolling boil, let cook about 20 minutes then drain the water and add cold to cool the eggs off. Use older eggs to make peeling them easier.
