will my dad's insurance cover an accident if i'm not on his insurance and don't have a license?
so i hit a deer the other day and i'm wondering if it'd be a waste of time if we went to the insurance to file a claim since i'm the one that hit the deer and don't have a license....

I think there's going to be a big problem filing a claim, with an unlicensed driver, driving the car.
But it's not your call. It's dad's call. He can ALWAYS file auto theft charges against you, and get the claim covered - but you'll end up in jail for stealing his car. His call.

Coverage depends on the carrier, the policy language, and the state that it happened in. In most states, coverage applies no matter who the driver is, unless the driver is excluded from the policy (meaning that they won't cover the loss no matter what happens). Plus... hitting a deer is almost always a "comprehensive" claim and not considered an at-fault loss. If your parents' policy doesn't exclude you, you still might have coverage for the car. The easiest thing to do is consult your agent or your carrier BEFORE you file a claim, and see if coverage would apply.

Even if they do not cover the accident, it would not be a waste of time. It is important to file the claim so that they know that he let someone who is not on the policy drive the car without a license, so that they can raise his rates or cancel the policy.

~~No they will not cover it. It was illegal for you to be driving the car.You must be a licensed driver and included on the policy to have any coverages.~~

Of course....not! Why would it cover an unauthorized and ILLEGAL driver???
Does the truth hurt???
