Lala - For infection identification and proper specific treatment, everyone would like a culture of any infection to "grow" in the lab as a single type bacteria. If the lab culture grows more than one bacteria, the report is of "a mixed bacterial culture" with more than one type bacteria, and more than one antibiotic may be required. If, someone, more than 2 bacteria grow, especially one type which should never be found in that body location, then the results are reported as a "contaminated bacterial culture" and a new specimen must be properly collected as soon as possible for further testing.
