You can only get a British passport if you are a British citizen...

An explanation of eligibility is to be found at this link...

If your father was born in the UK and was married to your mother at the time of your birth, you are a British citizen and therefore able to apply for a British passport.

You should apply at the nearest British Embassy or Consulate to you in the US.

You will need to submit your birth cert, your father's birth cert and your parent's marriage cert unless your father registered you as a British citizen when you were born, in which case you will have a British birth cert and that is all you need for a UK passport, along with your photos and the fee.

    Here's the details.

You could make a start by contacting the British Embassy closest to you - luckily there is no English ability test requirement.

Just about anyone can get one so I don't see why you can't.
