i have to do a reseach project on why Ghana was colonized, due next week!! I think it was colonized for its natural resources, but im not sure. Or if you know a website i could find this on, thats great! please help!

It would appear that the Portugese were the initial Europeans to arrive, and for the purpose of trading in gold, ivory and pepper.
In the 1500s, slave trading became the major trading activity.
The Portugese leased the rights to establishing trading posts for both commrcial goods, as well as slaves.
The English were granted such a lease.
