Do I need good credit to rent an apartment?

I'm looking to rent an apartment in central Alabama and I need at least 2 bedrooms/ 1 bath. I don't need a GREAT one, I just need something decent for my mom and I.

I don't have great credit, though. I'm not sure what the score is, but I know its not that high. My credit isn't bad because I neglect bills or payments, its that I've had two serious car accidents, both caused by the other party. So my question: Do I need good credit to rent a decent-nice apartment?

Thanks! :)

Well, you need good credit to do a lot. I would say if you get an ok apartment you should be just fine. But don't try to get a really nice one if you don't have good credit. Find out your credit number and find out how much you need for certain apartments and go from there. Good Luck! : )

The really nice places will require good credit. Why you have bad credit does not matter, in fact many landlords will not even look past the score. There are places that will take people with bad credit or do not even check credit but they are usually not very nice & not in the best part of town.

In most cases, yes, you will need an acceptable credit score/standing. You can always plead your case with the landlord involved, explaining WHY your credit is less than stellar. The landlord may (or may not) understand and overlook what has occurred in your life. Some will 'look the other way', and others will not.

Yes. A landlord needs to know you can afford the rent and that you pay your bills
