I would like to repurpose the nice glass jars for gifts and storing things, especially with such nice lids that close over the top tightly...

Put the containers in a water bath and boil them, ope end up. Wax will come to the surface of the water and can be removed and used after the water cools. Wipe the remaining wax residue off the glass with a cloth and petroleum-based solvent.

You could heat the glass in the microwave so that most of the wax melts and you can pour it out. Then use a scrubber to remove the last of the residue. Have fun! :)

Chill the glass, then chip out the wax with a knife or something similar. Follow up with a scrubbing pad. Finally, run the container through the dishwasher.

i would prefer to use petrol or kerosene ,the wax should dissolve in it and removed :D
