Elastics on braces creating underbite?

I've been told to wear my elastics on the two canine teeth and two back molars. However, this is creating an under bite for my teeth. Should this be happening? I don't even get the point of elastics.

It is not creating an under bite. It might feel like it, but I assure you it is not.

The point of the elastics is to fix your bite. It is pushing your top teeth back. You should see a gap to form between your canines and your laterals. If you do not see this gap forming, it means that you are not wearing your elastics enough.

Your treatment cannot be completed if you do not properly wear your elastics. Remember: for every one week that you do not properly wearing elastics, that will ADD ONE MONTH on to treatment time. So if you slack off with your elastics for 6 weeks, expect to have your braces on for 6 months longer than estimated.

    Good luck.
