Is this REALLY a lot of money?
Well on here everyone seems to think getting £100 a month at 16 plus £20 a week for lunch is a lot...
and I'm totally not rich, i live in a one bedroom flat, my mum sleeps on a sofa bed. yet she can easily afford to give me that, and pay for my phone contract (which is £30 a month)
She earns £500 a week, which isn't a lot compared to some people.
So i don't think that's a lot of money really....do you?
Well £100 = $161
well how do you guys afford lunch then?! how do you afford to go to the movies and buy clothes and perfume and make up and jewellery?!
My mum won't let me get a job, she wants me to focus on school.
and i didn't ASK for it. she just decided to start giving me monthly money at about 12 when i was going shopping for myself and going to the movies and stuff.
oh yeah i get EMA which is £30 a week.
pay for your birth control UNTIL you become sexually active? isn't that a little stupid? :L
Well i'm on birth control too but it's free in the UK :)

That is a lot (I had to check how much that was in USD) & turned out to be around $160.
Maybe you should start looking for a job & not just rely on your mom to give you an allowance.
I see getting an allowance for young children.

That is quite a lot! When I was 16 (and through all of high school), I got $20 a month and my mom paid for my clothes (although I very rarely get new clothes and we only shop sales), my lunch (about $2.50 a meal at my high school), and my phone ($10 a month). She also will pay for my birth control until I become sexually active ($5 a month). That is enough for recreation (my friends and I usually just hang at each others houses, I don't wear make up, perfume, or jewelry (other than what my boyfriend makes me). That's what I get for doing my chores and if I want more I have to get a job.
Added: I'm on birth control for my periods. My mom's logic is hard to explain, but it makes sense. She's fine with me having sex and she wants me to be safe, but she's not going to pay so that her unmarried teenage daughter can have sex. Besides, it's cheap. I'd be able to afford it and she's knows that my boyfriend and I are paranoid and responsible and would never have unprotected sex.

If she's only earning £500 a week and you get £100 of that each month plus extras then that's quite a lot. My dad earns near £48 000 a year and I don't get anywhere near as much as that. I get £20 a month into my savings that I can't touch and I get lunch money plus £10/£20 if I go out with mates which isn't often. And I don't get EMA :|
I so need a job...

well seeing as i got £4 a week in total and made my own lunches for the other days, then yes it does seem like a lot (plus no pocket money)
However i did get a lunch pass (school gave you free lunches for kids whos parents don't earn enough) but i would sell them for £2 a day making £10 a week which was how i made my money as a kid
Cinema and clothes and stuff didnt happen but everyone else in my area was poor so we just played outside or games or i would draw A LOT at home
Then in college i got EMA (£30 a week for going to college, as long as your not over 20 minutes late in total the whole week)
Either way your mums a nice mum for giving you an allowance you shouldn't have to work unless u want to... your still young no need to begin the stresses of money now
Just enjoy yourself

£500 is a decent amount of money to be earning weekly , anyone can say their wages is not a lot in comparison to others
so you get £100 + £80(Lunch money) + £120 from EMA
Yes for a 16 yeah old i think it is unnecessary seeing as you don't have a job. learning to balance education and work is a valuable lesson
I only got my £30 a week from Ema and i could afford lunch. and to go out and anything else i needed
you need to learn to handle money because as you get older your income won't be able to always go to the movies and buy jewellery and so on,your mum won't be chucking money at you and you will have other things to pay for and learn the actual value of money.

Not that much.
For bills and food I spend easily $300-400 a month, and that doesn't include rent.
As long as you both have a place to stay, can pay all the bills, get food and necessities, and balance that all out I'm sure it's fine, and be glad your mother can balance all the bills to give you a little extra.
If you want to help her out maybe offer to give up some of that money to pay the phone bill.
Edit: For food I just usually make my own food or buy things off the dollar menu.
I don't really have money to do extra things, but if I want to have a date night I just rent a $1 movie and my boyfriend and I watch that and eat popcorn...better than spending $30-50 on a dinner and movie.

Its a lot of cash when you have to earn it. I think your Mum's being super to give you so much. You say what you spend....but do you save .....even something to make you feel someday you could take you Mum out for her birthday from your savings that would give her a buzz.
This that there are some poeple out there who are working and con only earn £ 700 a month and pay all their bill from that. Its all relative, just consider you are in a lucky position. I have been on both sides and living on a little does make you appreciate how some have to struggle

And compared to some people £500 a week that your mum earns is a MASSIVE amount. If you are still at school then your mum remains financially responsible for you, so no, £100 is not a lot to give you, if its to cover your clothing and other expenses. However if you have left school, get a job and start inputting to the household finances.

I'm 13. I started getting an alowence 3 months ago. I pay for everything except food and shelter.
I get 40 dollars a month, and I'm happy with it.
I think what you get is a little more than you need, but I cant judge.
If your mom is fine with giving you that much money than I don't see the problem.
Consider saving a bit of it, for a rainy day.....like college.

It is definitely too much, for a 16 year old especially. That's how much a working teen would make per month. I'm sorry, but you're really being spoiled. I received $5 every other week as a teen and my mom paid for school clothes once a year (though it was a few hundred)
