Would it hurt my vehicle if I put a different size tire on it?

My car has the tire size of P205/75/R15 and tires that are p205/70 or 75/ r15. How much would it hurt the car? It's a 96 Taurus Sedan. The other tires are cheaper that's why I'm askin

Using a tire of inappropriate size can affect the speedometer accuracy, power and traction control.Mix matching different tire sizes is not recommended. The P stands for passenger vehicle, the number after the P denotes the tire width in millimeters. The second number is the aspect ratio of the tire, the height of the tire to it's width. The letter R denotes that it is a radial construction. The last number is the diameter of the tire's rim.If you have a size 15 rim,you have to put a size 15 tire on that rim, same for size 16 rims.

So what you have is Passenger 205 millimeters width/ 75 ratio to the height of the tire to it's width/ Radial15 tire-rim size.

I hope that answer's your question.

The center number such as 70, 75, are the width aspect of the tire. So the lower the number the wider the tire is. The difference between a 205/70/15 and a 205/75/15 is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. That handling isn't going to improve by leaps and bounds to the point you will notice. The speedometer will be a little off but again nothing you will notice. www.gotwheels.net will explain how to read all stampings and labels on tires.

205/75/r15 the only difference is that this tire is slightly taller than the 205/70/r15. it will not hurt the car if all the tires are the same. all it will do is affect the gas mileage and speedometer. (not enough to be noticed) So you would be fine with the new tires as long as u can take the ride being slightly closer to the ground.

A P235 on an Explorer is already slightly over under pressure in any case. i does no longer circulate to a smaller tire and develop the rigidity. a much better decision is to step as much as a LT (easy truck) 235. it's going to make a international of diffeence interior the handling and experience.

It won't hurt any. The p205/70 tires are just a tad lower, maybe 1/4in. It would help your handling a bit actually.

be care full ,insurance may not be valid ,this also affects the wheel telemetry, transmission will change gear quicker, but its not that big a deal really.you are not making a huge change so it will be fine.a good tip is to buy tyres and store in a warm place laying flat for a period before you need them.this tends to cure the rubber and makes them last longer!i keep my next set in the roof of my garage ready for the next change. if that's a pirelli they are good tyres.

  • The only problem will be your speedo will be off. See this page
