What would you keep the Monarchy(UK) or EU membership?

What i am getting at what is better for Britain in the long run not just financially but what unites the nation together and gives us something on the world stage. For me it has to be the Monarchy because regardless to what Republicans say the are cheaper than being in the EU at this moment we give more than receive when it comes to the EU. The Monarchy is above politics and unites us with our past yet has evolved as William shows ( should make a great king) . Monarchy is simply more colourful ok some will say so what but i think a bit of colour and heritage gives something to the nation . The EU is a drab bureaucratic headache which benefits the political class which we would be better of out.

Update:

Quizzard i realise that its just to see what people feel more sympathy with or loyalty.

My loyalty lies with the Monarchy. I took the "Queen's shilling" in 1969, my son took it in 2000. The Monarchy are head of the country I pledged allegiance to - not a bunch of faceless bureaucrats sat in Brussels, nor the EU as a whole.

From an economic point of view membership of the EU cost £300 per head of population last year - or £120 if you take of the money they gave back as grants. The Monarchy cost 70p per head.

  • YOu might as well be asking whether we want rain or trees. The two issues are not related. The K can maintain the monarchy and EU membership, or neither, or either of the combinations.

Frankly, as an outsider, the UK would be foolish to drop the Monarchy. Yes, the royals cost hundreds of millions, but the benefits they bring in tourism is far greater than ANY amount they cost. Without the monarchy, Britain becomes just another drab little EU country.

i think of you used the incorrect annoying on your question. The Pope might desire to have stored his mouth close concerning Turkey's ecu club in the previous he became elected to the papacy. As a cardinal he expressed an opinion on the undertaking which he had no business enterprise to voice. Now, i'm hoping, he's attempting to atone for his rash comments, not in easy terms those aimed in direction of Turkey however the old reference that became widely publicised and did not something to ease the present problems between Moslems and Christians. As a guy of God he might desire to be spreading the message of peace. i'm hoping he would be allowed to try this on a similar time as in Turkey. as far because of fact the ecu club of Turkey is in touch. i've got self belief that Turkey could make a contribution to the ecu greater advantageous than the ecu could make a contribution to Turkey. For selfish motives, i'm hoping they're going to connect - in the top and merely as quickly as the expectancies have been realised.

with membership to the EU we have access to 700 million people of roughly the same GDP making it a great market for trade and business.

We should not expect the EU to work for us we should be going to europe and doing deals making it work for ourselves instead of sitting on our f@t asses and expecting the EU do give it all in hand.

The monarchy isn't above politics because it form a part of every government in the UK.

Source(s): Nell I'd like to remind you of how Fu`cking great we are: We are so great we have the biggest deficit in Europe,Went into an illegal war in Iraq undermining UN institutions,Acting like a puppet of America because Westminster sees itself as a partner with america yet we don't have even any where never a 10th of the Nuclear Weapons; our empire is vitually non existant almost completely falling in 60 years and we still maintain a presence in northern Ireland which should be illegal as you would not dream of separating the north and south of england because the north was a artifical population of foreigners so why do it in Eire

    I'd keep the Monarchy.

    Think of our history.

EU - well.... We can fend for ourselves.

We're not called GREAT Britain for nothing ;)

There is no comparison but I have to say I would love us to get out of the EU.As for the Royals they do bring tourist here however I would like to see it rendered down as there are far too many hangers on.The one comfort is that whilst we have a Monarchy we never need to fear a Despot Dictator.

i would keep the monarchy and ditch the eu . we would be a lot better off ruling ourselves rather than a load of faceless twerps in brussels

We should keep both. As other European countries do. Whatever its ambitions, the EU ignores the history of its member states at its peril.
