How can I transfer files from hard drives of defunct computers to my newish 'desk-top replacement' 'laptop'?

I have plenty of space on the new computer, which runs Windows 7.

I have the physical hard drives from two older computers, neither of which will start up at all [ believe me I have tried ].

I'd like to rescue a few documents - mainly in Word.

One of the old ones ran Windows Me, one Vista.

They are junk, but I would like to get a few, comparatively small, files out if I possibly can.

For the personal computer does it take 2.5" or 3.5" difficult drives? If it takes 2.5" difficult drives (got here upon on virtually all laptops) then purchase an exterior difficult disk (a more advantageous speed is swifter , 7200 RPM is sturdy). move each and every thing you wanna keep into the exterior difficult disk then positioned the files onto the hot workstation. i in my view recommend this technique on the grounds that in case you position your laptop hardchronic into the personal computer you've the problem of homestead windows Activation and some purposes received't function wisely.

You can purchase a dock that will connect the hard drive to you're usb or firewire port. Just make sure you get one that matches the size (2.5" or 3.5") of the hard drive you want to transfer from.

As for recovering the files, try pandora recovery. Its freeware and you can get it off of download.com
