Misal menggunakan metode Abjad
aAl + bO2 ---> cAl2O3
Al : a = 2c ..........(1)
O : 2b = 3c .......(2)
misalkan a=1,
persamaan (1) a=2c, jika a=1 maka c=1/2
persamaan (2) 2b = 3c ----> 2b = 3(1/2) -----> 2b = 3/2 ------> b=3/4
nilai a=1, b=3/4, dan c=1/2
maka persamaannya menjadi:
aAl + bO2 ----> cAl2O3
Al + 3/4O2 ---> 1/2Al2O3 ---> agar diperoleh bilangan bukan berupa pecahan maka dikalikan penyebut terbesar, berarti semua reaksi dikalikan 4, menjadi :
4Al + 3O2 ---> 2Al2O3
