My doctor prescribed me a anti-fungal pill, but when i looked up online the dosage was not enough, so i talked to the pharmacist and she told me that i can take acidophilus (a probiotic) which will help the good bacteria to grow. According to the references I listed below, you're right, there are some disconcerting side effects. And the side effects happen much more often in women than men. But, (and that's a big "but"), the doctor wouldn't have prescribed it for such a long time without good reason.
Sometimes we have to deal with side effects for the greater good. All medications are like that to one degree or another. Sorry. Keep taking it until you hear back from the doc.
Hope you feel better soon.
