I need my Wisdom teeth out Monday!!!!!?

I am getting my Wisdom teeth out Monday and Im pretty worried. I am 20 years old and because I could not reach the back of my mouth a few of the wisdom teeth have cavities in them so thats why I need them out, that with other reasons. I will be knocked out on IV and laughing gas so I wont feel or remember anything, so thats not what I am worried about.

What I AM worried about is after the surgery. What will it feel like and what will I be able to eat, and how long does it take to heal. What is the pain like, and did the medicine they give you for pain make you sick? I know Im probobly worried over nothing but this is my first surgery. Also, when can you begin eating normal again? Thanks!

Update:

Im doing it before thanksgiving because they are starting to hurt me, and if I didnt I would have to wait until the 2nd week in Jan and I dont think I can wait that long.

I just got three of my wisdom teeth taken out on Monday, so I know how you feel. I was sooo nervous about the surgery, but with my insurance I couldn't afford to be knocked out so I figured I might as well just go for it with only local anesthetic. Couldn't feel a thing, but I was so anxious that my surgeon kept noticing my knees shaking throughout the whole procedure.

Afterwards, so long as you get good painkillers, it's not too terribly bad. I've got vicodin, and it hasn't made me feel sick at all. Make sure you take something BEFORE the numbness completely wears off and stick to a schedule for it so that you always have some in your system for the first couple of days. Also, there's going to be A LOT of blood but it will go away in a day or two. I might've bleed more though cause I couldn't stand having gauze in my mouth to soak it up. You'll probably end up spending a lot of time sleeping, and I know at least for me I've barely been hungry at all so really soft foods like pudding and yogurt have been more than enough. Drink lots of water! Also, your jaw will probably be sore and difficult to open due to them propping it open -- it'll go away in a couple of days.

Sadly you're probably not going to be able to enjoy all the Thanksgiving staples, but things like mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and certain pie fillings should be fine. Just be sure to rinse with lots of salt water and brush your teeth as best you're able. Good luck!

The single most important piece of advice I can give you is don't suck!

Don't drink anything through a straw. If you smoke, don't smoke!

Sucking can loosen, and cause you to lose, the blood-clots that will form in the sockets where the teeth were, and if that happens you will end up with what is called dry pockets, which are extremely painful.

Warm, saltwater rinses will help the tissue heal faster.

The surgeon will give you a package of information...be sure to read it and follow it. He/she can give you medication for pain and swelling if you need it. The first couple of days will be uncomfortable, but if you do everything you're supposed to, it shouldn't be unbearable. You should be able to enjoy the softer foods on Thanksgiving, such as stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes...you won't go hungry : )

    Good luck!
