British folks---what do you call Physicians/Doctors?
In a lot of movies, I notice Doctors/Physicians referred to as "Quacks" (especially in WW2 dramas)---is this still the slang term used in Great Britain?

we call them doctors - dodgy ones might be called 'quacks' which comes from the time of the plague when doctors wore a mask with a long 'beak' filled with herbs and flowers as they thought the plague was spread through bad air - they looked like ducks, hence the name - it's not used that much nowadays

That isn't used anywhere near so much now. "Doctor" is the word, though "GP" has come into vogue in recent years to specify your family doctor as opposed to any other kind - it means General Practitioner. Physician is hardly used at all.

We call them Doctors or GPs (General Practitioners).
Quack is rarely used, except in fun.

Rarely....... Unless Dick Van Dyke is playing a loveable cockney.....
Generally we save the word 'quack' for when we really are talking about 'quacks'... ie homoeopathic "doctors", acupuncturists or a chiropractors
