Nothing distracts you more than your own very thoughts. I believe, what we see in our dreams sometimes is merely a picture of what we have thought or had been thinking for a very long time. If you are sad, depression will follow and bad thoughts will make rounds through your mind. In fact, your bad thoughts are something which make you feel depressed. Now, that is your wrong way of thinking which often leads to nightmares or upsetting dreams. You can change it by thinking good, something positive which doesn't pressurise your mind. Thinking good would automatically make you feel good and hence you will tend to see more of good dreams. I feel, A happy state of mind attracts positivity from surroundings and does everything around him/her actively and whole-heartedly and when mind is at peace, then I guess, question of seeing upsetting dreams doesn't arise. Because then you sleep in happy mood too. Sometimes, we see nightmares despite feeling happy too but that happens in rare cases. Most of the time, it is because when we think bad, we see bad in our dreams.

I am saying this from personal experience. I have often noticed that when I feel bad, my thoughts are something which make me feel like that. And many times, what I had been thinking was something I saw in my dreams..just a picture of my thoughts and that made me more upset but then I also noticed that it is not that difficult to change your thinking too. When you feel happy, everything good happens around you and hence you get a 'good night's sleep'.

You dreams come from your unconcious mind and usually they do have a connection to our real life but not in the straight forward way that we think. For example death in a dream is supposed to mean the end of something, the end of a career, friendship, anything really. If you dream of being pregnant or having a baby it can mean that you n e e d to pay attention to your own needs, your taking on too much of someone elses responsibility, or subconciously you want kids. The best thing to do is go online or buy a dream dictionary book. Make a journal of all your dreams, write them down as soon as they happen and try to analize them though the dream. If you are having a reacurring dream that you want to get rid of you need to figure out what it means, ie dream dictionary and try to resolve the issue that the dream is referring to.

Dreams show us our future, and it isn't cast in stone. We can change the things we don't like by how we act, do, associate with etc before the time arrives, or simply by being aware of what the circumstances are. You can't get rid of dreams (until you die), only overcome the problems you see. Dreams are a communication from the Creator designed to help us if we learn to use the analogies and metaphors they contain. A similar observation is in Numbers 12:6... except Moses didn't appear to realize everyone dreams.

well upsetting dreams such as nightmares occur during REM sleep which is basically the period of time were dreams occur. it has not been confirmed that dreams have a deeper meaning but many famous psychologist like Sigmund Freud believed that they could be used to analyze the patient's thought, issues and impulses.one thing that lets me get rid of them is usually thinking either about something enjoyable or happy right before i got to bed or go to stage one of my sleep(alpha). the mind is a powerful thing and you'd be surprised what you can do.

A lot of people think they're the things in your subconcious brain that are really bugging you or that you don't want to face. Good luck, God bless you.
