How to swim freestyle fast?
i am learning how to play water polo. I really need to swim faster. my freestyle is a lot slower than my breaststroke. i think that's mostly because breaststroke breathing is a lot easier than freestyle breathing. Every time i try to breathe while swimming freestyle i kind of sink a little bit and then as soon as my head is back in the water i come back up. often times i don't feel that i am breathing frequently enough, i kinda have to hold my breath for a little while and then exhale and then inhale. so i feel kind of oxygen-insufficient while swimming. i inhale once every two strokes. I'd really love to know how to swim freestyle faster.
Ps: I have seen a lot people who play water polo swim freestyle really fast with their heads above the water and with the ball in front of them. I've been told that it's your shoulders that push the water forward which pushes the ball forward. i tried but i can't keep my shoulders above the water very well, so i swim really slowly and the ball is often in my face.
Any Advice?

so you are sinking when you take a breath. THat is probably because your recovery is longer on your breathing stroke. That is common for many swimmers. Try to make your recovery shorter and make your breath shorter. Do this by breathing out your air underwater before your breathe so that when you go to breathe you don't have to breathe out and in. Also, work on your suction of air. Breathing in lots of air in a short period of time is essential in sprinting. A good drill is using a snorkle, putting tape over the top and poking a hole in the tape with a pen. For waterpolo sprinting, it you need your head up. You still want to maintain a good line too. Imagine you are a pencil. If your head is the eraser, then your feet will be below then in the water. Having a strong kick is essential to sprinting. Also, the MOST IMPORTANT THING is having good tempo in both your kick and your pull. Look up some videos, count how many strokes the proffessionals take in 10 sec. and try to match it. You will do fine. ok, for moving with the ball, you wake keeps it infront of you. move faster. It will come naturally over time with practice.
