UK employer eye test liability?

A friend told me that here in the UK, if your job involves working full-time at a computer, your employer is obliged to provide you with free eye tests. However my employer doesn't do this.

Can anyone tell me whether it's true my employer is legally obliged to do that, and if so, could you point me to an official online web site that proves it?

Only if you need one. And to be specific, they may arrange the eye test but still ask you to pay for it. they should also give you regular breaks from the computer. My source is from the direct.gov website, and includes various articles on the law involving computer based work.
