African American Poetry?

I would like to find a poem I read a young man.

The poem was of a woman who is feeling empowered in her Blackness. In her home, she sees everything around her that is black as an extension of her heritage. I don't remember the lines, but in essence, she goes around thinking, "a black this, a black that..." But then she steps outside and is confronted with "white snow."

Does anyone know the name of this poem and/or the poet?

i'm sorry i won't be able to help you lots... i know that many things (in slavery) have been positioned into songs. they could be fairly discovered, recited and repeated. for the reason that many have been illiterate (maximum have been forbidden to earnings to study or write), music became into a normal potential of tale telling. Even countless the gospels have been laced with secret messages and subject concerns. possibly attempt looking up countless the spirituals and oral traditions?
