Juliet and her Beau Romeo ?

As I have said elsewhere today is my day for asking stupid questions. In Romeo and Juliet,at one point Juliet takes a potion that sort of feigns death near the end as you all know. He finds her in this catatonic state and thinking she's dead he kills himself she wake up to find Romeo dead & kills herself but why did she take said potion in the first place does the author make this clear anywhere ?

Update:

wakes , I had not spelt it properly.

Update 2:

Joe go and get an education, One does not read plays they should be performed before an audience, I have seen Romeo and Juliet many times, in fact a good version is the Leo & Claire Danes one so that is to your credit if you come from that side of the pond as I suspect.

It was part of a plan with the priest or monk whatever to fake Juliet's death and then sneak her off to be with Romeo.

She took the potion so that she would not have to marry that guy her parents wanted her to marry.

Why don't you try reading the entire play. Its very well worth it.
