On "The Mentalist", who thinks Jane is really Red John?
I could think of lots of "TV" plot lines that would be within the scope of the show for that to be the case.

What would be the point?
Lately it has been popular for most crime dramas to have a "mysterious" killer, serial killer or what ever who has fixated on the lead character of the show. CSI, CSI NY, CSI Miami, Bones, most of them have had that scenerio. This is just more of the same.

Can't be, because they were seen together in the last episode of the second season.
My personal suspicion is that Jane's father is Red John. From what we've seen of Alex Jane, there are several ways in which he fits the Red John profile. However, we don't even know whether he's alive or dead in the present day (he has so far only been seen in flashback). As far as I'm concerned, though, until we hear that he's dead, he stays on the suspect list.

It's an interesting theory and we did see a darker side of him come out this last episode, but I don't think I can buy it. Why would he be working with the CBI if not for revenge? Of course, it's possible, but with the demographic of this network show, I would say unlikely.
