inverter for house purpose?
Hi,
I am looking to purchase a power backup solution for my home capacity 800VA inverter
Which one you would suggest as I need to run a desktop computer without power halts for 4 hours, 4 tube lights and 4 fans. I am told that UPS is better than inverter,can we run pc on inverter pl suggest

At last i purchased800VA wep invertor,Exide 180 AH battery , the problem solved, but i would like to know generally who will purchase old inverters, i am having 800va cap local make inverters, one in working,other is having transformer problem, both are very heavy it may be 10 to 15 kgs each, off course for old batteries the dealer gave some discount. pl suggest....

Microtech home ups is better for your requirements. Actually backup depends on battery.

A UPS is an inverter - well, an inverter bundled with a gel cell and charger.
Most consumer UPS will only run for 10 minutes or so. You may be better to get an inverter and deep-discharge RV batteries, and a smart charger. Or golf-cart batteries,which I hear are better.
I have run a desktop PC, monitor, and lamp on an inverter, I forget the model. But it could not handle a fridge, even though it should have handled the steady power requirement, because the inrush current on the motor is huge.

UPS for home use can supply electricity for half an hour or so only. Inverters can supply for several hours. UPS are relatively cheap compared to inverters. In inverters the battery cost is 80 to 85 % of the total cost. I will also suggest to replace the tube lights with CFL lamps and save 75% power.
APC has a model of 850 VA capacity inverter that costs around 17,000 rupees in Mumbai.
