I have a dog that has stared suffering with arthritis in the past 2 months. I took her to the vet and she got a proper check up.
She started on a course of injections for the arthritis - needs about 3 or 4, a week apart each, then every few months.
I am also giving her tablets which have glucosamine, chondroitin and green lipped mussell. As the tablet is fairly large I just crush it up and mix it in her dinner every night.
So far the injections are helping. She can almost keep up with our younger dog when we go for a walk and that's really good because I had to pick her up a lot when it got too much for her.

Our old german shephard died at 12 and in his last few years arthritis really bothered him. Signs of it including not being able to jump into your vehicle like it once did, not running very much, difficulty getting up and down steps. A lot of it is the same things humans deal with. If he has been licking his paw a lot I would say he may have stepped on something that injured it, dogs tend to lick wounds.

My dog has hip displasya and I give her MSM and Glucosomine daily about 1000mg and it is recommended by my vet for the rest of her life.
What that does is llubricatesthe joints and helps to rebuild the ccartilagein the legs and joints.
Ask your vet or go to the pet store and look for arthritis medicine for dogs to help ease the pain

Talk to your vet. Don't offer your dog human medication unless your vet recommends it and tells you the proper dosage. Your vet may instead prescribe medication appropriate for canine medication.
However, your vet needs to examine your dog to diagnose him first.

definetley take him/her to the vet for proper medication. you could also try adding some cod liver oil for his joints into his food, it'll also make his coat more shiny!
