Should I audition for ABT?

A girl went up to me in pointe class, saying I should audition for ABT. I did my research and agree. Yet, I'm terrified. Since I'm 13 I can only do their summer intensive, but the age is 13- 17. The older girls will be totally better than me. I am one of the best dancers in my class. I just feel like everyone else, thinks I can't do it. So please help.

ABT has several summer intensives around the country. They are in Alabama, Texas, Detroit, NYC and CA. It isn't 13-17 together. It is based on age, ability and training.

When you audition for the ABT SI you are auditioning for ALL of them. Some are very easy to get into such as Alabama and others hard like NYC. There is an excellent chance you will get into one of them. The only one that is really elite is the NYC one. That is the SI that they ask on occasion for students to go to the JKO (ABT) school in NYC. The others are pretty much money makers for them to be honest. Very crowded and not the best dancers. Almost anyone can get into ABT Alabama.

So, definitely audition for that SI along with some other ones as well and see where you get into. The ABT SI is not the best one although the full time school is excellent. My daughter has done many SI including ABT NYC. You should also look into CPYB. Even though it isn't audition it is by photo and then placement audition once you get there, it is one of the best SIs around. The reason for this is that they have over 20 levels so you will be placed where they think best. They call it Ballet Boot camp. Also look into Boston Ballet which is a good SI for a first SI.

Good luck and have a great summer!

Let me tell you a story about an amazing girl in my ballet class. Let's call her Rhonda. You see, Rhonda had been very advanced for her age in ballet ever since she began, and took as many classes and did as many competitions and performances as she could. By the time Rhonda was about 13 or 14 (your age) it was the summer before she was to be a Freshman in high school. Rhonda decided she should audition for The Kirov Ballet's Summer Intensive and Shows in Washington (or Washington D.C. I can't remember! =P) A couple weeks after the audition, Rhonda found out that she had gotten into the summer intensive. She would be put into a group of girls with ages 14-16, so her being the youngest one, thought she wasn't going to do very well. When Rhonda arrived at The Kirov, she discovered that she was one of the best in her class, and she got the main parts in the show. When she came back, everyone noticed that she had been working all summer and that she was so much better. So please, do not lack self confidence in yourself, and I'm sure you will be perfectly fine, and what do you know? You might end up even being one of the best in the room. Good luck and happy dancing!

If you feel that you are ready to audition for the summer intensive, I say do it! You will be placed in a class with people of the same dancing level so you don't have to worry about the other dancers being a lot better than you. And then when the time comes for you to audition for the ABT Ballet Company you will be prepared. Good Luck!

You don't want to have to be the best one in a summer intensive -- they are for learning. I know you're used to being the best in your ballet class, but to tell you the truth, when you walk into that intensive there is most likely going to be someone a little better than you. Don't get discouraged, don't pay attention to how much better they are than you, just concentrate on YOU improving! I think you should try it (for experience) and if you don't like it, than you can just move on with your life and keep going with your current ballet class. Good luck!:)

i've got no longer been so i won't be able to truly answer your questions, yet ballettalkfordancers has an entire communicate board approximately SIs with a good number of counsel and comments approximately one and all. i might truthfully recommend checking that out because of the fact there is archives the two from fellow dance pupils and professionals.
