How big of a gauge can one put in an ear and have it close up again?

I kinda want to gauge my ears.. but if I do I want them to be able to have them close down to normal size.. thanks.

    It's not called gauging, it's called stretching.

    And you can go up to a 00 and it will still be able to grow back, any bigger and it won't.

    Its different for everyone. But i've heard 2g or higher normally cant be closed completely.
