Hi Ari.
Q1 : Athens and Sparta were both city states. Sparta was land-locked and became largely insular, developing into a militaristic state based on infantry. Athens was closer to the sea and developed a maritime trade and a navy to protect this trade.
Q2 : I'm not sure that I really agree that Athens and Sparta really were isolated. You could just about argue that Sparta was and this would be because Sparta existed in a valley in the Peloponnese and were geographically removed from the rest of the Greek mainland. Athens was never isolated - it was head of the Delian League. Both cities enjoyed trade links with other communities and countries.

I don't know... Maybe because Greece was/is kind of mountainous?
Anyway I wanted to say that in my opinion this is not the best place for your project. I mean, people can search for the right answers in the net.
